Isabelle Kleiner Receives the Physical Chemistry Division's Award for Established Researchers

Isabelle Kleiner is a Research Director at the CNRS at the Interuniversity Laboratory for Atmospheric Systems (LISA), affiliated with the CNRS, the University of Paris-Est Créteil, and the University of Paris Cité. Her work focuses on gas-phase spectroscopy of molecules exhibiting high-amplitude motion, selected both for their significance in fundamental physical chemistry and for their applications in astrophysics, atmospheric science, and biology. In particular, she has contributed to the development of quantum chemistry models for calculating molecular spectra, which are then translated into computer codes. This work makes it possible to describe the gas-phase spectra of flexible molecules exhibiting large-amplitude motions, such as the internal rotation of methyl groups and inversion, and leads to accurate predictions of spectra in the microwave and infrared regions.
All of her software is used in numerous laboratories to model the internal rotational dynamics of methyl groups and to interpret high-resolution experimental data in the microwave, millimeter, terahertz, and infrared ranges. His research, conducted as part of various national, European, and international collaborations, has led to the detection of several molecules in the interstellar medium and has resulted in numerous publications in the field of high-resolution molecular spectroscopy.
