EUROCHAMP 2020

EUROCHAMP-2020 Integration of European Simulation Chambers for Investigating Atmospheric Processes – Towards 2020 and beyond

EUROCHAMP-2020 is a European project, funded under the Horizon 2020 programme through the “Research and Innovation Action” call. The project started at the end of 2016, for a duration of four years.

The EUROCHAMP consortium is composed of 14 European universities and research centers. The partners have worked to build up a network of simulation chambers, which are very advanced scientific tools for the study of the processes which occur in the atmosphere.

The project mainly aims at increasing the use of simulation chambers, going beyond the limits of national institutions and providing access to such laboratory tools for the large international scientific community.

Another main objective of the programme is to improve the performances of simulation chambers, with the goal of using them to analyse other and more complex scientific questions, like the consequences of air pollution on human health, or its effects on cultural heritage. To do so, the programme is based, on one side on the improvement of analytical techniques, and on the other side on the development of new techniques of chemical and physical modelling, to support experiments performed in chambers.

The project’s partners are deeply committed to establish long-lasting and fruitful collaborations with the private sector. Such collaborations take place through the establishment of common research projects involving the use of simulation chambers, the testing of new instruments for air pollution monitoring or the evaluation of the atmospheric impact of new emission.

Lastly, one of the main achievements of the project is the development of an open database, (https://data.eurochamp.org/), managed by CNRS AERIS, which allows to access to data coming from the experiments performed in simulation chambers. Currently, the platform is widely consulted by the large external scientific community.
